CCNY Dean Mary Driscoll Named Harold Kobliner Chair

Dr. Mary Erina Driscoll, dean of The City College of New York’sSchool of Education (SOE), has been named the Harold Kobliner Chair in Education at CCNY. The Kobliner Chair is bestowed upon a distinguished and committed faculty member in the SOE. It is named after Harold Kobliner, a 1950 CCNY alumnus, in tribute to his 40 years of service in the New York City public school system.

“Dean Driscoll's commitment to academic excellence in leadership emulates the essence of the Kobliner Chair,” said Dr.Lisa S. Coico, President of City College. “Please join me in congratulating her on her appointment.”

Dr. Driscoll, who has served as dean of education since 2012, has spent her academic career in educational leadership development. Beginning as a high school music teacher, she rose through the professorial ranks at renowned higher education institutions before coming to City College. 

Since her arrival at CCNY, her many contributions include serving as principal investigator on the CCNY Race to the Top grant, working to support the Mayor's Pre-K Initiative through the master's degree program in early childhood education and partnering with the New York City Department of Education and CCNY faculty to prepare teachers in shortage areas, including bilingual and special education. Additionally, she is a prolific writer, speaker, and consummate educator.
