2013 NYC Neuromodulation Conference at CCNY, November 22 – 23

First event of its kind in New York lets clinicians, researchers and students hear from pioneers, learn about emerging innovations

The 2013 NYC Neuromodulation Conference, the first meeting of its kind to be held in New York City, will take place November 22 – 23 at The City College of New York.

The event will provide clinicians, researchers and students with opportunities to hear from pioneers and learn about emerging innovations in transcranial electrical stimulation, the application of low-voltage current to restore and improve brain function. Conference sessions will cover research, clinical trials and techniques in a dynamic and interactive format.

“We have assembled 28 expert speakers and panelists for this conference from 18 institutions in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Germany,” said conference organizer Dr. Marom Bikson, associate professor of biomedical engineering in City College’s Grove School of Engineering. “Attendees will learn about how the field reached its current state and where it is heading over the next five years.”

The clinical indications covered during the conference include depression, pain, epilepsy, tinnitus, PTSD, Autism spectrum, attention disorders, stroke and TBI rehabilitation, and addiction. In addition, applications for cognitive enhancement in healthy individuals will be reviewed.

Dr. Walter Paulus, professor of clinical neurophysiology, Göttingen Graduate School for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and Molecular Biosciences, Germany, will be the conference keynote speaker. His topic will be “The Frontiers of transcranial Electrical Stimulation.”

Dr. Michael Nitsche, professor of clinical neurophysiology, Göttingen, will be the speaker at the opening plenary session. His topic will be “Foundations of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation.” Professor Bikson will deliver closing remarks on the “Next Generation of Transcranial Electrical Stimulation Technologies.”

Over the two-day program, attendees will also hear 15 lectures and two panel discussions, and they will be able to participate in two poster sessions as well as an optional practical course on transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). In addition, awards will be presented during the closing session, including a $500 prize for best all-around conference poster. All events will take place in Room 0/201, North Academic Center, located at W. 138th Street and Convent Avenue on the City College campus.
