Zahn 2016 entrepreneurship competition winners at CCNY
Hybridia, VeriPAD, StreetLabs, and Applied Motions are the grand prize winners in the Zahn Innovation Center’s Entrepreneurship Competition at The City College of New York. They pitched to investors, entrepreneurs, bankers, and other experts for a piece of $150K in prizes.
This year, startups competed in four categories, including IoT, women in tech, and social impact. The startups have both a hyper-local focus in NYC, and also a global perspective in congruence with City College’s diverse student body.
Applied Motions won the $50,000 Kaylie Prize for connected devices. Its wearable product uses biofeedback to increase athletic performance while preventing injury. The startup will use the prize for manufacturing and testing. Applied Motions also won a $1,000 Audience Choice award.
The $25,000 Zahn Technology Prize was scooped by Hybridia for a tool that promises to reinvent laparoscopic surgery. It was conceptualized in biomedical engineering classes in CCNY’s Grove School of Engineering. They also won an Audience Choice award in their category.
VeriPAD won the $25,000 Zahn Social Impact Prize. This startup pitched an app that authenticates medications for low and middle income countries. Testing will begin in Kenya and Lebanon this summer.
In the Standard Chartered Women+Tech4NYC category, StreetLabs was awarded the $25,000 top prize. It unveiled a smart technology for monitoring New York City roads, allowing for faster and more efficient repairs.
