Students remember MLK, Jr. with Jamaica Bay clean-up

More than 50 City College of New York students and staff honor Martin Luther King, Jr. this year with a clean-up effort in Jamaica Bay from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16. The volunteerism is part of the institution’s annual community-focused Martin Luther King Day of Service organized by CityServ in observance of the slain civil rights leader’s birthday.

This year, CityServ collaborates with the nonprofit Student Conservation Association on the Jamaica Bay coastal clean-up and restoration. SCA mobilizes volunteers coast to coast this MLK Day, and throughout the year, in celebration of the National Park Service Centennial.

Alejandro Gonzalez, assistant director in CCNY’s Department of Student Life, invites more CCNY students and staff to volunteer for the event.  Click here to register. For more information, email cityserv@gtest.ccny.cuny.edu .

CityServ is a campus based service-learning opportunity made available to CCNY students through the Office of Student Life.
