Leadership Summit Opens Women’s History Month at CCNY

The City College of New York marks the start of Women's History Month with its 2nd Annual Women's Leadership Summit, Saturday, March 1. Themed "Renaissance Woman," the conference, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the North Academic Center (NAC) Hoffman Student Lounge, facilitates growth and connection among women's groups and professionals and CUNY students.

Free and open to all CUNY students, the event is sponsored by City College's Women's Summit Student Committee and the Ernesto Malave Leadership Academy at CUNY. Registration is required.

Following is a list of other Women's History Month events at City College. All events are free and open to the public:

March 4, Women's History Month Kickoff. The campus celebrates the start of the observance with free food, massages, yoga and games. Learn about upcoming events for the month. 12 - 2p.m. Tuesday, March 4, Hoffman Atrium, NAC.

March 4 – April 6, "Loving Thy Self: A Celebration of Women's History Month" art exhibit. Ten visual artists from the metropolitan area join forces to celebrate women in their artwork. Guest curator Aleathia Brown. Tuesday, March 4 – Sunday, April 6, Windows on Amsterdam Art Gallery, NAC Plaza. Opening reception 6 – 8:30 p.m. March 4. Artist talk 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26. 

March 6, "Feminisms and Forgiveness: A Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Faculty Discussion for Women's History Month." Speakers: Andrea Weiss, professor, film and video; Griselda Rodriguez, director, international studies; Irina Carlota Silber, professor, anthropology; Patricia Ackerman, director, women's studies; and Jasmina Sinanovic, professor, women's studies. Dee Dee Mozeleski, director, Office of Institutional Advancement, Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership, will moderate. 12 noon – 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, Room 558, Shepard Hall.

March 10-28, "CCNY Women Make Art 2014." Showcasing art made by women of the City College Community - students, faculty, staff and alumnae. 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. weekdays, Cohen Library Archives Gallery, room 5/301, NAC. 

March 11, Women's History Month Diversity Talks. A discussion about women in the workplace across cultures in honor of Women's History Month and Diversity Week. 12 - 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, Hoffman Atrium, NAC.

March 12, Women's History Month Wednesday Night Live. A night of live entertainment, featuring music, dance, stepping and more in honor of Women's History Month and Diversity Week. 6:30 - 9:30p.m. Wednesday, March 12, NAC Ballroom.

March 13, Film screening: "Girl Rising." The movie tells the stories of nine girls from different parts of the world who face arranged marriages, child slavery, and other heartbreaking injustices. Through education, they were able to break barriers and create change. A talk with invited guests follows the screening. 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at the Center for Worker Education (CWE), 7th Floor, 25 Broadway, Manhattan.

March 25, Lecture: Andrea Weiss, City College professor of film and video, "The Writer and Her Muse: Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas." The intimate relationship between Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas, focusing on Alice's role as Gertrude's confidante, intended reader, muse, editor, publisher and memory prod for incidents and events. 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, Center for Worker Education, 7th Floor, 25 Broadway, Manhattan.

March 27, "Leaning Into Motherhood: Understanding Leadership Through the Experiences of African Women." A talk by SUNY Stony Brook Professor Oyewumi Oyeronke. 12 Noon – 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, Cohen Library Archives reading room 5/301, NAC. 

March 27, Women's History Month Closing. A celebration of student life and Zumba dancing, courtesy of the Women's History Month Student Committee. 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, NAC Ballroom.
