Ahmed Helal, a recent graduate of The City College of New York’s Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture, is the winner of an international award from the Vectorworks Design Scholarship. Helal’s project, “Mass Timber,” is one of 22 projects from 11 countries in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and entertainment, that was chosen out of a field of more than 1,000 submissions. “Mass Timber” takes on climate change through use of materials to create change in the construction industry. “Currently, Mass Timber is being situated in a discussion of material

City College of New York chemist Michael Green and his colleague Alisher M Kariev have received a research award from The Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL) for research to be carried out in 2023. Twenty awards were granted to research teams across the country. Awardees will study resources for carbon storage, model water systems, and examine biological systems as bioenergy sources, among other projects. CCNY Class of 1960 alumnus Judd Hirsch is celebrating another major Hollywood honor. The legendary actor’s latest film, “The Fabelmans” won Best Motion Picture in the drama category at the 2023 Golden Globes awards. The City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering, along with four partner institutions, has received a $1.325 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for talent and workforce development, and research training, as part of a collaborative project to prevent infections in tissue-engineered organs, implants, and other medical devices. The City College of New York and the Foundation for City College extended its holiday tradition of providing free meals to the Harlem community at the end of the Fall 2022 semester. These meals are prepared by Black-owned school food management company Red Rabbit, which has partnered with the College and the Foundation to deliver meals to community partners since 2020. That annual tradition continued on Dec. 14, when four volunteers distributed 175 meals at the Towers.
