Orubba Almansouri

SEEK ALUMNI SINCE 2016 -  English & History

“For centuries, this city has been the gateway to America for so many striving, hope-filled immigrants -- folks who left behind everything they knew to seek out this land of opportunity that they dreamed of. And so many of those folks, for  them, this school was the gateway to actually realizing that opportunity in their lives, founded on the fundamental truth that talent and ambition know no distinctions of race, nationality, wealth, or fame, and dedicated to the ideals that our Founding Fathers put forth more than two centuries ago: That we are all created equal, all entitled to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." City College became a haven for brilliant, motivated students of every background, a place where they didn't have to hide their last names or their accents, or put on any kind of airs because the students at this school were selected based not on pedigree, but on merit, and merit alone.” .

Skavi Ballinas

SEEK ALUMNI SINCE FALL 2019 Mechanical Engineering

Skavi Ballinas graduated in fall of 2019 and majored in Mechanical Engineering. Skavi started college in the fall of 2014 and felt fortunate to be part of the SEEK program. She benefited from the services and resources provided such as counseling and mentoring that she needed as a first generation college student. The tutoring she received also really helped her understand and grasp the material taught in her class. Outside of SEEK, Skavi was also an active member in LAESA-SHPE, Society of Hispanic Engineers, being part of the executive board from 2016-2017. She helped coordinate events such as First LEGO League and Pre - College Engineering Day to teach the younger generation about careers in the STEM field. Most importantly as a City College of New York alumni, she values the friendships and relationships that she established all thanks to the SEEK program and will forever be thankful for that. Post graduating Skavi, is now working as a Manufacturing Engineer with Procter and Gamble (P&G) in the Baby Care department.
