CCNY SEEK Program Prospective Students Quick Guide

What is the SEEK Program?

The SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) Program is a New York State–funded initiative that provides academic and financial support to students who meet specific academic and income eligibility requirements.

How Are Students Considered for the SEEK Program at CCNY?

The CCNY Office of Admissions reviews undergraduate applications to determine academic eligibility for the SEEK Program.

  • Academic requirements vary depending on the major or school a student applies to.
  • Students who meet these academic criteria may be considered for SEEK admission.

What Happens After Conditional Academic Admission?

Students who meet the academic criteria are conditionally admitted to CCNY through the SEEK Program.

  • Admission is conditional because economic eligibility must still be verified.
  • Final acceptance depends on meeting New York State income guidelines for the SEEK Program and completing the SEEK Summer Program.

How Is Economic Eligibility Verified?

Economic eligibility is typically verified through FAFSA information received by the college.

If FAFSA Information Is Insufficient:

  • Students must complete an in-person verification appointment with the CCNY Financial Aid Office.
  • Additional documentation may be requested.

Important Notes:

  • Students who are not eligible for federal aid must also complete in-person verification.
  • The Financial Aid Office will contact students if further documentation is required.

What Happens After Academic & Economic Approval?

Students who meet both academic and economic requirements will:

  • Receive an official communication from the CCNY Office of Admissions
  • Get instructions on how to commit to CCNY as a SEEK student

What Happens After I Commit?

Once you commit:

  • You will be enrolled in the mandatory SEEK Summer Program
  • This program is a required part of the admissions process

Important:

  • Avoid making travel plans during this time
  • The program typically begins the first week of July
  • Duration ranges from 4 to 6 weeks, depending on assigned workshops

What Is the SEEK Summer Program Like?

During the summer program, students will participate in the following:

Academic Components:

  • Participate in Math or English workshops
  • Attend a New Student Transitions workshop

Activities & Experiences:

  • Campus tours
  • Scavenger hunts
  • Group activities and events

Benefits:

  • Meet other incoming SEEK students
  • Connect with SEEK faculty and staff
  • Get familiar with the CCNY campus in a less crowded environment

When Do I Register for Fall Classes?

SEEK counselors assist with fall registration based on students’:

  • Academic interests
  • Intended major
  • Math placement test results (Please take the math placement test seriously.)
  • Removal of immunization holds on their records.

Enrollment Timing:

  • Some students are enrolled before the summer program begins
  • Others are enrolled during the summer program
  • The goal is to enroll students as early as possible

Important Admission Requirement

⚠️ Enrollment in fall classes does NOT finalize your admission.

  • You must complete the SEEK Summer Program to remain admitted.
