Timeline

In the above timeline, CCNY is in Group 3. Our transition starts this Spring into the Fall, and we officially shift to Brightspace in Spring 2025.

CUNY Colleges prepare to transition from Blackboard to a new LMS, Brightspace.

Starting April 3, 2024, CUNYFirst will integrate real-time data, including course shells, transitioning Brightspace into its operational phase. The comprehensive shift to Brightspace across the University, unfolding over two and a half years, will have all CUNY college courses hosted on Brightspace by Fall 2025. Brightspace is celebrated for its accessibility, dependability, and cutting-edge design. This aligns with CUNY’s goal to be the leading student-focused University system in the nation, offering transformative and equitable access to higher education for our diverse student body.

Brightspace Transition Timeline
  • Fall '24: Transition Group 3 migrates courses and prepares to use Brightspace.
    • D2L will move the course content from Blackboard to Brightspace in the early fall. Courses will not be copied to Brightspace or deleted from Blackboard. As the migrations are completed, faculty members will be able to access their courses in both Blackboard and Brightspace during Spring 2025.

    • CCNY faculty will receive training and resources from the TLC, D2L, and CUNY Online. We will continue to add resources to this Brightspace Transition Site.

  • Spring '25: Launch TG 3: Transition Groups 1, 2, 3 courses delivered in Brightspace.
    • In the upcoming spring, a significant transition will occur in how course materials are delivered; all courses will be migrated to the Brightspace learning management system (LMS). This shift means that professors intending to conduct classes for the Spring 2025 semester will utilize Brightspace as the primary platform for disseminating course content, engaging with students, and managing course-related activities.

    • To ensure a smooth transition and effective use of this platform, professors should take the time to become acquainted with Brightspace's features, interface, and functionalities before the Spring 2025 semester commences. Familiarizing themselves with Brightspace ahead of this deadline will enable instructors to design and lead their courses more efficiently, leveraging the platform's tools to enhance the learning experience for their students.
