Join the CCNY LGBTQ+ Student Center, Christopher Street Tours, CCNY Libraries, NYPRIG at CCNY, and The CCNY Department of Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Studies each semester during the 2025-2026 academic year as we learn the history of "Zines" and make our own! Zines (short for magazines) are homemade books that can showcase art, texts, and more on a variety of topics. Workshops available each semester during the 2025-2026 academic year (Spring date TBA).
Dive into queer history through the lens of zines and archival materials, with the chance to make your own LGBTQ+ zine! Learn the history and significance of zines as a tool for LGBTQ+ self-expression, activism, and community building. Students will also create an original LGBTQ+ zine or another kind of zine on other activism topics important to them that reflects personal identity, expression, or activism broadly; applying techniques and inspiration from historical examples.
This semester’s workshop theme is “Queer Spaces” - how zines support and create Queer Spaces and how zines help build community.
