Friday, October 2, 2009The City College of New York in collaboration with the office for Economic & Commercial Affairs of the Embassy of Greece in Washington DC welcomes Dr. Dimitris Niarchos, Director and President of the Board of the Greek National Centre of Scientific Research "DEMOKRITOS" (NCSR-Demokritos) on Tuesday October 13, 2009.
NCSR-Demokritos is Greece's largest self-governing research institution, under the supervision of the Greek Government (for additional background information visit: http://www.demokritos.gr/istoriko_uk.asp).
Dr. Niarchos will be guest lecturer at the City College Department of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences in the context of a new course on global climate change. This course is a component of the general education core program for all non-science majors (about 65% of entering freshman in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences). The lecture will take place at City College's NAC building in Room 1/214 and it is open to the public.
Dr. Niarchos will meet with CCNY officials, including Dr. Daniel E. Lemons, Dean of Sciences of the City College of New York and Dr. Jeff Steiner, Chair of the City College Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, among others. Following months of preparation on behalf of both institutions, Dr. Niarchos' visit is expected to culminate into the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between City College of New York and NCSR-Demokritos.
