Ahmad Shamulzai was born in Afghanistan and moved to India a few months later due to the hazardous war conditions. Ahmad lived in India for eight years before moving to the United States at the age of nine. While in high school, Ahmad discovered an interest in Chemistry and Biology and decided to pursue a career in medicine. After entering City College as a Macaulay Honors Student, Ahmad became infatuated with research and joined a Neurobiology research group under the mentorship of Dr. Martin. Ahmad joined the research group in his sophomore year and has ever since been working with mice to elucidate the motor function pathways of the corticospinal tract in hopes of developing a treatment for paralysis. Ahmad is very passionate about helping others in need and is pursuing a MD-PhD path to give back to the community as a doctor, while also immersing himself within the field of research to enlighten his understanding of complex Biochemical phenomena.
