Judy Guillén was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States at the age of 12. She is pursuing a Major in Spanish Language and Literature and a Minor in Secondary Education. Her area of research focuses on how the phonetic features of the language of first generation Dominican adolescents are retained or lost as they acquire the English language in an educational setting in the U.S. One of her main interests is to understand how phonological interference of the first language affects learning a second language. Before pursuing a doctoral program in Spanish Linguistics, Judy intends to complete a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics. Teaching and research are her passions.
