As a biochemistry and physics honors research student at The City College of New York, Mathiu Perez Rodriguez investigates plants’ intrinsic defense mechanisms against physical and pathogenic threats. In particular, he researches how wounded potato periderms prevent microbial infection, allowing potatoes to achieve skin regeneration and not perish. Mathiu aspires to continue exploring biophysical phenomena such as protein structure modeling, dynamics, folding/misfolding, molecular machinery, protein synthesis, and protein DNA interactions. He strives for a career that will allow him to conduct groundbreaking research and enhance patient care. |
