Roland Maio is a native of Queens, New York. After graduating from high school, Roland enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He began his academic career at the City College of New York, where he soon realized his desire to pursue doctoral studies in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Roland has conducted research on trees under the supervision of Professor Sean Cleary. Additionally, he has completed software engineering internships with NASA and JP Morgan Chase & Co. Most recently he served as an intern at IBM Research, where he helped develop a variant of a taxonomy generation algorithm under the guidance of Rakesh Pimplikar and Gyana Parija. Outside of his academic pursuits, Roland enjoys volunteering for the New York Invitational, a USAG sanctioned, boys gymnastics.
