Born and raised in Brooklyn, Asha Whale is currently majoring in History and minoring in Black studies and Theater.  Asha is passionate about education and was a college access and success Fellow in the Partners for Change Fellowship at CCNY. She has also interned in the education departments of Young Men’s Initiative and the Studio Museum in Harlem, where she combined her passions for Black Studies and the arts.  Since she first learned about minstrel shows in middle school, Asha has been interested in how representations of African Americans in media and entertainment have shaped Black identity.  Her research focuses on how Black agency in media production has impacted media portrayals of Black life.
