Getting Started (Voicemail Setup)

Getting Started

Before you can begin using the many new features of your NEC phone, you will need to setup your voicemail account. Setup only takes a few moments and you can complete it from your office phone or another phone off-campus.

Important: You must complete all steps in order to initialize your voicemail correctly, which includes setting a security code, name and personal greeting. Once you have completed all steps, you can make additional changes later on in the Personal Options menu on your phone.

  1. From On Campus
If you are completing setup from your office phone, begin by dialing 8778 or pressing the Message button on your phone.

    1. From Off Campus
If you are off campus, dial 212-650-8778. Enter your extension at the prompt.

    2. Enter Security Code
You will be asked to enter a security code. Enter the temporary security code CCNY (2269).

    3. Set a New Security Code
The system will then ask you to set a new security code. Chose a code that is at least 4 digits long and is something that you will remember. Also make sure to choose a code that is secure (ie. not something easily guessed like 1234 or 1111).

    4. Record Name
You will then be asked to record a name. This name is used to identify your phone account, such as when someone hears a voicemail message left from your phone. (ie. "Message one from [Recorded Name] was left on [Date]...")

It is also used if you choose to have a standard system greeting instead of a personal greeting (see Step 5 for more information)
      • Begin recording by pressing 2 and speaking after the tone.
When you are finished, press 2 to end recording.
      • To replay recording, press 6.
      • To save recording, press 5.
      • To discard recording, press 4 and then wait for the prompt to record a new name.

    5. Record a Personal Greetingrsonal greeting. A personal greeting is a customized message that you can set to play when someone reaches your voicemail.
You can choose not to record a personal greeting and use a standard system greeting instead (ie. "[Recorded Name] is unavailable. Please leave a message after the tone.")

NOTE: To set a system greeting instead of a personal greeting, skip to Step 6.
      • Begin recording by pressing 2 and speaking after the tone. When you are finished, press 2 to end recording.
      • To replay recording, press 6.
      • To save recording, press 5.
      • To discard recording, press 4 and then wait for the prompt to record a new name.

    6. Set a System Greeting (Alternative to Personal Greeting)
You can choose not to record a personal greeting and use a standard system greeting instead (ie. "[Recorded Name] is unavailable. Please leave a message after the tone.")
To set a system greeting instead of recording a personal greeting, press 2 and then immediately press 2 again. Press 4 to discard recording, and then hang up. A system greeting will now be used.

    7. That's It!
You have finished setting up your voicemail account and can now access your messages. If you set a personal greeting in Step 5, you will be prompted to listen to your new messages. Otherwise, you will need to access your voicemail (see Step One) and use your new security code.
