New study abroad program leads CCNY undergrads to Peru

Add Lima, Peru, to the list of numerous study abroad destinations for City College of New York students. An agreement between CCNY and the South American nation’s Universidad Ricardo Palma paves the way for CCNY undergraduates to spend the winter intercession, Jan. 2 - 23, 2020, at the renowned institution in the Peruvian capital.

The program “CCNY/Universidad Ricardo Palma, Literature and Culture in Lima, Peru,” has been tailored for traveling students to earn six credits in Peruvian literature, history and culture. The latter will be taught in English, while Spanish for non-native speakers will be available.

Course-related activities will include ¬field trips to historical and world heritage sites. Peru offers extraordinary sites such as Machu Picchu and Cusco, both remnants of the amazing Inca culture.

“This program is an asset for City College because it will provide our students the opportunity to study in one of the most historically and culturally fascinating countries in Latin America,” said Dean Juan Carlos Mercado, director of CCNY’s Office of Study Abroad and International Programs.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Universidad Ricardo Palma’s main campus covers nearly four square miles. It is home to laboratories, specialized libraries and auditoriums. There is also a university museum of natural history, which houses important biological collections.

With the addition of Universidad Ricardo Palma, CCNY now offers study abroad opportunities to five continents.

This new agreement is made possible with the support of Raquel Chang Rodriguez, Distinguished Professor in the Division of Humanities and the Arts; and Antonio Cornejo Polar, of the Centro de Estudios Literarios, in Lima.
