Oriol Brull Named 2017 Art Stevens PRSA N.Y./CCNY Scholar

Scholarship celebrates 10 years of support for outstanding public relations students

Oriol Brull, a student in the Advertising/Public Relations Program at The City College of New York, has been named the 2017 Art Stevens PRSA-NY/ CCNY Scholar for Excellence in Public Relations. He will receive a $5,000 scholarship for his continued study at CCNY during his senior year. This year marks the 10th year that Art Stevens has funded this scholarship to support rising talent.

Stevens, managing partner of The Stevens Group and a CCNY alumnus, created the scholarship in 2008 to support talented students majoring in communications. His commitment to both PRSA-NY and the City College Communications Alumni Group inspired him to name the scholarship for both organizations.  Stevens scholars are recognized at the annual spring CCNY Communications Alumni Group Awards and at the PRSA NY Big Apple Awards.

“Oriol represents the best of our Advertising/PR students and PRSSA. Beyond his stellar academic record, Oriol has demonstrated his passion for our industry as a PRSSA CCNY chapter leader and as a competitive intern for multiple agencies.  Personally and professionally, he is a model for any aspiring PR student,” said CCNY professor Lynn Appelbaum.

With a strong foundation in social media integrated communications, Oriol currently interns at SociedAD, a division of Campbell-Ewald. He was a social media intern at Batten & Co., an Omnicom Company. His expert reporting skills, coupled with his passion for cars, earned him a spot in the 2016 “GM Discover Your Drive Journalism Experience,” a national student competition, to cover the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

“Art Stevens’s support plays an essential role in student success because it alleviates the tuition burden, so students can focus on their academics and careers,” said Ed Keller, professor and Ad/PR program director. “Beyond the financial support, Art continues to mentor his scholars and has built a family of Stevens Scholar alumni who meet annually to support each other.  Art is a role model in our industry.”

Former Stevens Scholars have had successful careers in public relations and in other areas. They are: Anne Tan ‘09 (Queens Botanical Garden, Marketing Manager), Isabella Safiyeva ‘10 (Blue Card, Senior Program Director), Kellie Jelencovich ‘11 (MSL, Account Supervisor), Asaf Breier ‘12 (Douglas Elliman Real Estate Sales and Development), Caterine Molina Barfell ’13 (Ketchum, Senior Account Executive), Brent Reams ‘14 (Newell Brands, Associate PR Manager),  Khaled Hassan ‘15 (graphic design student, Shillington School), Susan Akinyi ‘16 (Y&R, Account Executive) and Troy Blackwell ’17, 2016 White House Intern, now finishing his senior year.
