Project Teaches Undergrads to Reconstruct Ancient Family Histories

200 students from CCNY and seven other schools provide DNA samples for initiative directed by biology professor Michael Hickerson Approximately 200 student volunteers from The City College of New York and seven other New York area colleges are participating in The New York City Student Ancestry Project. Afghan Television Journalist Visits CCNY to Report on Diversity

Eleven City College students and Distinguished Lecturer Lynne Scott Jackson from the media and communications art department participated in a group interview January 30 with Afghani television journalist Parwiz Shamal of Tolo News . Mr. Shamal is on a two-week visit to the United States, supported by a U.S. State Department grant, to produce a series of reports on diversity in America. Alumna Pamela Thomas Makes Mark Collecting Black Animation Art

Exhibit featuring artwork from ‘Harlem Globetrotters,’ ‘The Jackson 5ive” and ‘Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids’ opens February 5 at the Schomburg Center Over the past 15 years, Pamela Thomas, a member of The City College of New York Class of 1996, and business partner Loreen Williamson have assembled one of the most extensive collections of 1970s black animation art in the United States. Vincent Boudreau Appointed First Dean of Colin Powell School

Dr. Vincent Boudreau is the first permanent dean of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York. The CUNY Board of Trustees approved his appointment at its January 27 meeting. A book edited by Retha Powers, acting assistant director of City College's publishing certificate program, has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award . “ Bartlett’s Familiar Black Quotations : 5,000 Years of Literature, Lyrics, Poems, Passages, Phrases, and Proverbs from Voices Around the World” (Little, Brown and Co., 2013), is vying for the NAACP’s “Outstanding Literary Work” prize in the non-fiction category.
