Video Essay Workshop with Kevin D. Ball
New York, NY 10031
In this online workshop, Professor Kevin Ball will give an intro to the practice of making video essays. He will share two of his experimental essays, which explore Black creativity and world-building in films and music videos. Workshop participants will use footage to create a short piece that critically engages with the moving image through editing and rhythm. The piece will be made up of six visual clips that participants will set against a single audio clip. This exercise introduces ways of thinking about the making of videos as a way of thinking critically with and about moving images. Video editing experience is helpful but not required. Moderated by Anjanette Levert.
With your RSVP, you will receive a link to this Zoom event.
Note: Participants will produce a short audiovisual project. The goal is for participants to use basic editing tools to experiment with the material and, in doing so, develop critical ways of engaging with sound and image. The workshop will provide the sound that is needed for this project. Workshop participants will need to bring at least five (5) minutes of various video clips or visual material (mp4). Baasic editing skills are needed. Use your editing platform of choice: Premiere, Davinci, Imovie, Microsoft Clipchamp, even Capcut or Canva.
