Alumni Accomplishments

Pablo García Gámez, a former student and current adjunct lecturer in the Foreign Languages and Literatures Department of City College, received last October 13th 2014 the HOLA (Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors) Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting for his play Noche tan linda .  This is the second time the play has received an award. In 2013 it was the recipient of Proyecto Asunción Award by Teatro Pregones and was produced last June 2014 at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theater. Noche tan linda originally was a short story, product of a short-story workshop led in 2012 by professor Ángel Estévez at City College.

Mariana Romo-Carmona -received the Graduate Student Paper Award for The constitution of lesbian characters in the novels of Ibis Gómez-Vega and Ena Lucía Portela. Mariana Romo-Carmona is co-editor of Cuentos: Stories By Latinas, author of the novel, Living at Night, and Sobrevivir y otros complejos: Poems in Englillano. Her Master's thesis is on deterritorialization and suicide in the work of surrealist Chilean poet, Carlos de Rokha, and begins her doctoral studies (Fall, 2014) in the Hispanic & Luso-Brazilian Lits. and Langs. Program at The Graduate Center, CUNY.
