ECE Interview Application FAQ
01. I’m currently taking introductory ECE classes. Is there anything I need to do to finish my degree in ECE?
Yes! To graduate with your degree in ECE, you must be formally admitted to the program and City College’s School of Education (SOE) to be eligible to take your advanced ECE courses.
02. I’m already accepted to CWE, and my transcript says I’m an ECE Major. What is the difference in being “formally admitted” to the ECE program and the SOE?
The ECE major listed on your transcript is the one that you declared that you want to do. This means you will be allowed to take prerequisite courses that, pending your grades, lead to more advanced study. The next step is to pass a group interview that simulates an advanced ECE class. After you pass the interview, then you will be formally admitted into the program.
03. Great! Where do I sign up for the group interview?
First, to sign up for the group interview, you must fill out the Licensed Teacher Education Pathway (LTEP) application form to make sure you have earned (or will earn in Spring 2025) a grade of C or higher in prerequisite courses. You will also be required to pass the SEAT exam.
04. Ok where do I get the LTEP Application Form? And what is the SEAT exam?
You can ask your advisor, or download the LTEP application. The SEAT is the School of Education (SOE) Admissions Test. The SOE offers opportunities to take the test in person or online each semester, please check for upcoming SEAT test dates.
05. Awesome! Are there resources to study for this exam? How do I prepare for the interview?
There are resources online and available from the front desk at CWE. You will learn more about how to prepare for the group interview after you submit LTEP application form and the ECE program confirms you are eligible to interview (e.g. passed SEAT, taken certain classes, etc.). Also, there is a workshop each January that helps students prepare for the SEAT exam.
06. Great. This is a lot of information. Who do I contact if I have questions? Email the ECE Program Director, Dr. Gail Buffalo, gbuffalo@ccny.cuny.edu ; or set up a zoom appointment with her on calendly.com/gbuffalo/15min. You can also speak with your academic advisor.
