Teaching

Dr. Yang Liu teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, experimental methods, and thermal systems at The City College of New York. His teaching connects fundamental principles with physical understanding, experimental measurement, data analysis, and engineering design.

Current Courses - Fall 2026

ME 35600 Fluid Mechanics

An introduction to the behavior of fluids at rest and in motion. Topics include conservation of mass and momentum, the Bernoulli equation, dimensional analysis, pipe flow, boundary layers, drag, and lift.

ME 57200 Aerodynamic Design

A study of airfoil and wing aerodynamics, including finite and swept wings, compressible flow, shock waves, wind tunnels, and aerodynamic design.

Current students should use Brightspace for course announcements, materials, assignments, and grades.

Teaching Approach

Connecting Fundamentals and Applications

Students develop a strong understanding of fundamental principles and learn how to apply them to practical fluid, aerodynamic, and thermal systems.

Learning through Experiments and Design

Experiments, flow visualization, measurement techniques, data analysis, and engineering design help students connect mathematical models with physical behavior.

Developing Engineering Communication

Course projects, technical reports, and presentations help students communicate their methods, results, and engineering decisions clearly.
