Safe Zone/Ally Training

The LGBTQ+ Student Center provides Ally and Safe Zone Trainings to support students, faculty and staff create a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive environment for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQ+) community. 

All workshops are free and open to the CCNY campus community.  Any student, staff, or faculty member is welcome and all are strongly encouraged to participate. An individual’s participation in Safe Zone often sends a strong message to campus community members that they are an identifiable source of support for LGBTQ+ students, staff, and faculty on our campus.

Safer Space Training on Friday, February 4th, from 1pm to 3pm. This online program, designed and led by Shane Windmeyer of Campus Pride, Inc. will teach up to (50) CUNY faculty, staff, and student leaders how to create safer spaces for LGBTQI+ students on their campuses. All participants who successfully complete this training will receive a certificate of completion.

Successful completion of Safer Space Training is required to register for Stop the Hate: Bias and Hate Crimes Prevention Workshop on Friday, February 25th, from 1pm to 3pm (this includes completion of any in-person or online Safer Space training at Queens College from Fall 2019 to present). This workshop will teach up to (50) CUNY faculty, staff, and student leaders how to prevent and combat bias and hate crimes on their campuses. Campus Pride, Inc. developed this workshop in partnership with the Anti-Defamation League, Association of College Unions International, The Southern Poverty Law Center, Wilbron Institute, Matthew Shepard Foundation, and the Center for the Prevention of Hate Violence.

These workshops are made possible through the generous support of LaGuardia Community College and the New York City Council through the offices of Daniel Dromm (District 25) and Former Speaker Corey Johnson, and with the additional support of the Queens College Office of Student Development and Leadership.
