For the second year in row, The City College of New York has been ranked #1 in research expenditures among master’s universities by the Washington Monthly’s 2015 College Guide. The amount that City College spent on research rose from $55.11 million in 2014 to $57.92 million in 2015, an increase of more than five percent. Those outlays helped CCNY to become a co-leader nationally in producing the most 2014-2015 Fulbright U.S. Scholars, and contributed toward CCNY undergraduate and graduate students’ receipt of numerous awards, fellowships and scholarships. Acclaimed poet Thomas Sayers Ellis and short story writer Chinelo Okparanta have joined The City College of New York’s MFA program in creative writing as visiting faculty for the fall 2015 semester. Ellis, whose collection “ The Maverick Room” (Graywolf Press, 2005) won the John C. Zacharis First Book Award, will teach a course titled, “Race Fearlessness Poetics: Risk as the Decisive Moment in Every Room.” Hailed as a literary activist, Ellis is credited for launching The Dark Tower, a black poetry movement that is considered to be an extension of the Harlem Renaissance.The Nigerian-born

City College's fall semester intake includes Ukrainian journalist, activist and art lover Asia Bazdyrieva. She is one of four Fulbright Foreign Student Program recipients accepted at City College for graduate studies and research. Bazdyrieva will use her Fulbright to earn an MA in art history from CCNY's Division of the Humanities and the arts .
