6 From CCNY Named NSF Graduate Research Fellows

Danielle G. Rivera, a master of Science in biology major at The City College of New York and five recent CCNY graduates have been awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships. The fellowships recognize and support exceptional students who have proposed graduate-level research projects in their fields. Selection is through a national competition. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $34,000 and $12,000 cost-of-education allowance for graduate study that leads to a research-based master's or doctoral degree in science or engineering. CCNY Junior Neville Green Elected NSBE National Chair

Joshua James voted national finance chair of 29,000-member group Neville Green, a junior in The City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering was elected national chair of the 29,000 member National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at its 2015 convention March 29 in Anaheim, Calif. A second City College junior, Joshua James, was elected national finance chair of the student-managed organization. Both will serve one-year terms beginning May 1. Model EU Simulation at CCNY Teaches Diplomacy

Amid increasing flashpoints around the globe, 150 students from the United States and Europe spent the pre-Easter period at The City College of New York learning about the tenets of diplomacy and problem solving. The occasion was the 28th SUNY Model European Union Simulation, March 26-28, hosted by City College for the first time. Eighteen institutions, including universities from Belgium, Germany, France and Ireland, participated. CCNY Team Excels at Model UN International Conference

An 18-member student team from The City College of New York won the Distinguished Delegation Award at the 25th National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in Manhattan March 26. NEH Awards Summer Stipend to CCNY Historian Lale Can

City College of New York historian Lale Can, whose expertise includes Ottoman and Middle East history, has won a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipend to finish a book on trans-imperial pilgrimage across Asia at the turn of the 20th century. The award is part of $22.8 million in grants for 232 humanities projects announced by the NEH in Washington, D.C. Joanna Ventour Wins NY Women in Communications Scholarship

Joanna Ventour, a junior in The City College of New York's media and communication arts (MCA) department, has won a New York Women in Communications (NYWICI) Scholarship for 2015. The advertising and public relations major with a 3.90 GPA is one of 19 recipients of the highly competitive award. The award is open to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Winners are selected on the basis of academic excellence, need and a demonstrated commitment to the field of communications. CCNY Graduate Sabina Pringle, ’14, wins Fulbright to Colombia

Unschooled as a child, Sabina Pringle has been teaching English in Spain since graduating from The City College of New York last fall with an honors degree in English. She is now the recipient of a 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Colombia. Pringle will travel to the South American nation this August on a year-long English Teaching Assistantship at a Colombian university.
