Rivera, a master of Science in biology major at The City College of New York and five recent CCNY graduates have been awarded National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowships. The fellowships recognize and support exceptional students who have proposed graduate-level research projects in their fields. Selection is through a national competition. Amid increasing flashpoints around the globe, 150 students from the United States and Europe spent the pre-Easter period at The City College of New York learning about the tenets of diplomacy and problem solving. The occasion was the 28th SUNY Model European Union Simulation, March 26-28, hosted by City College for the first time. Eighteen institutions, including universities from Belgium, Germany, France and Ireland, participated. An 18-member student team from The City College of New York won the Distinguished Delegation Award at the 25th National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference in Manhattan March 26. City College of New York historian Lale Can, whose expertise includes Ottoman and Middle East history, has won a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Stipend to finish a book on trans-imperial pilgrimage across Asia at the turn of the 20th century. Joanna Ventour, a junior in The City College of New York's media and communication arts (MCA) department, has won a New York Women in Communications (NYWICI) Scholarship for 2015. The advertising and public relations major with a 3.90 GPA is one of 19 recipients of the highly competitive award. The award is open to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Winners are selected on the basis of academic excellence, need and a demonstrated commitment to the field of communications. Unschooled as a child, Sabina Pringle has been teaching English in Spain since graduating from The City College of New York last fall with an honors degree in English. She is now the recipient of a 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Student Award to Colombia. The international award is given out by the United Arab Emirates-based Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF).
