At The City College of New York, a $200,000 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant to psychologist Teresa López-Castro will enable her to delve into an aspect of the epidemic – barriers to treatment engagement for individuals with opioid use disorder who have post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Bruce Kim, associate professor of electrical engineering at The City College of New York, is the principal investigator of a project to develop a nanosensor that can automatically detect explosive and narcotic vapors from maritime containers. The project, “Development of Automatic Detection System for Maritime Containers with Dangerous Cargo,” is financed by a five-year, $600,000 grant from the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering. Physicist Sriram Ganeshan of The City College of New York’s Division of Science is the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award. It provides more than $500,000 for his research project: “Quantum Hydrodynamics: From Electron Fluids to Chiral Active Matter,” which could help develop new technologies based on the collective behavior of quantum systems.
