Appointment of Dr. Simone Tarver as Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Simone Tarver as Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications in The City College of New York’s Office of Institutional Advancement, Communications and External Relations (OIACER), following the completion of the search for this important leadership position.

For more than a decade, Simone has been an integral part of City College’s communications and marketing enterprise, helping to transform not only how we tell the story of CCNY, but also the infrastructure, platforms, partnerships, and creative strategies through which that story reaches our community and the world.

Simone most recently served as Associate Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, a position she has held since 2020. Previously, she served as Senior Director of Marketing and Communications in OIACER and, before the creation of our unified division, as Director of Marketing in the College’s former Office of Communications. Across each of these roles, her responsibilities and institutional leadership have continued to grow.

Among her many contributions, Simone has played a central role in two major redesigns of the CCNY website, including our current work involving more than 15,000 pages and hundreds of campus content editors. She has helped strengthen the College’s digital infrastructure, accessibility, security, and public-facing presence while navigating the extraordinary complexity of a platform serving an institution of CCNY’s size and scope.

Her work has also fundamentally expanded the reach of the City College brand. Simone co-developed and launched the “Doing Remarkable Things Together” campaign supporting the Foundation for City College’s $1 billion campaign; has led the College’s partnership with the New York Giants; developed major advertising and brand-awareness initiatives across New York City; and helped bring CCNY to new audiences through streaming platforms, transit advertising, community-based campaigns, and other emerging channels.

Just as importantly, Simone has helped us think institutionally about what the City College identity means. She has worked across schools, divisions, departments, and administrative offices to bring historically disparate communications and marketing efforts into greater alignment while respecting the distinctive identities and voices that make up our College. She has also led important work around trademark protection, licensing, creative operations, procurement, and external partnerships.

This appointment comes at an important moment for City College. As we implement our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan, strengthen our digital infrastructure, broaden our engagement with New York City, and continue telling the extraordinary story of this institution, integrated and strategic communications will be increasingly important to our success.

In her new role, Simone will provide leadership for the College’s marketing and communications strategy and will oversee a multidisciplinary portfolio encompassing brand strategy and stewardship, marketing, digital and web strategy, creative services, advertising, institutional storytelling, licensing, and related communications initiatives and our campus radio station, WHCR, working in collaboration with our station manager, Keziah Sullivan. She will also work closely with colleagues throughout OIACER and across the College to ensure that our communications support institutional priorities ranging from enrollment and student success to fundraising, community engagement, workforce development, and the continued growth of City College’s public profile.

Those of us who have had the opportunity to work closely with Simone know the expertise, candor, creativity, institutional knowledge, and deep commitment to City College that she brings to this work. I am delighted that, following the search process, she has been selected to take on this expanded leadership responsibility.

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Simone Tarver on her appointment as Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Communications and in supporting her and her team as they begin this next chapter of their work on behalf of The City College of New York.

Sincerely,
Dee Dee Mozeleski
