Associate Provost for Research

I write to announce that Dr. Rosemarie (Rose) Wesson, Associate Provost for Research and Professor of Chemical Engineering, in the Grove School of Engineering, has been selected as the CUNY Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, effective December 1, 2023.  Rose will be a terrific Associate Vice Chancellor for Research in the Central Office, and we will miss her on this campus.

Rose joined CCNY in 2015 as the inaugural Associate Dean for Research in the Grove School of Engineering and has served as the Associate Provost for Research for the last three years.  Rose catalyzed growth in the research enterprise at CCNY by providing strategic vision, guidance, and coordination.  During Rose’s tenure, CCNY has seen a greater than 20% increase in research expenditures college-wide; the Carnegie Classification of City College increased to R2-High Research activity; and the electronic Research and Innovation at City College (RICC) magazine was born.  In her new role, Rose will continue to build bridges throughout CUNY, as well as building partnerships externally, with industry and universities.

Rose is a scientific leader with broad experience and accomplishments across academia, industry, and government funding agencies.  She leveraged her strong technical foundation gained at MIT and the University of Michigan into leadership positions advancing research and innovation in organizations and sectors ranging from Dow Chemical Company, Louisiana State University, and the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering, which includes the NSF Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program.

I am proud that CUNY has recognized Rose’s excellence and her work in the Central Office will benefit the entire university, including City College. Please join me in congratulating Rose on her new role at the University.
