Important Campus Health Update: Tuberculosis (TB) Information

Dear Members of The City College Campus Community,

We are writing to inform you that a City College community member has been diagnosed with tuberculosis. The individual is currently receiving treatment and we will provide resources as they are needed to ensure they can return to campus in the future.

Important: This individual was last on campus on December 4, 2025 in the Steinman Building and we are working closely with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to ensure that contact tracing protocols are followed for our community.

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene determines who must be notified or tested based on the level of potential exposure and will directly notify any community members who may require testing. For students identified for follow-up, referrals for testing will be coordinated through Student Health Services. Faculty and staff may obtain testing through their preferred health care provider.

Tuberculosis Facts

  • Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection that is typically spread through the air when an infected person coughs or speaks, for example. People with active TB disease are most likely to spread TB germs to people they spend time with every day, and not to people with whom they have brief contact.
  • TB cannot be spread by touching surfaces, handshakes, or other casual contact.
  • There are medications available to treat and prevent active TB.
  • Additional information about TB is available on the CDC website.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your personal health, please contact Student Health Services at (212) 650-8222 or via email at  shs@ccny.cuny.edu .

We are committed to protecting the health and safety of our campus community and will continue to provide updates as needed.
