CCNY COUNSELING TRAINING PROGRAMS

*All trainees must be able to commit to an orientation to the CCNY Counseling Center*

Psychology Fellowship

For CUNY fellows in psychology doctoral programs

Late August, 2027 – May, 2028

• 10-12 hours orientation in August, 2027
• 16 hours weekly
• 2.5 hours weekly supervision (1.5 group, 1 individual)
• Some evening hours may be required
• Must be available Thursdays 10 am -12 pm for group supervision and staff meeting
• Responsibilities include but are not limited to intakes, brief counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, leading workshops for students and faculty, therapeutic case management, group counseling, with possibilities for supervision of other counseling trainees and research.

Psychology Externship

For students obtaining their PhDs/PsyDs in clinical or counseling psychology

Late August, 2027 – mid June, 2028

• 16 hours weekly minimum
• 2.5 hours weekly supervision (1.5 group, 1 individual)

• Responsibilities include but are not limited to intakes, brief counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, leading workshops for students and faculty, therapeutic case management, group counseling, with possibilities for supervision of other counseling trainees and research.

For upper-level CCNY undergraduate students majoring in Psychology
Late August 2027 – End of May 2028
Applications due June 1, 2027

• 20 hour orientation in August 2027
• Must have at least 60 college credits completed, GPA of 3.0 or higher
• 1 year commitment (2 semesters)
• Commitment of 8 hours weekly, which must include availability during club hours Tues/Thurs 12-2pm and 1 hour of supervision with licensed clinician
• Primary responsibilities include outreach and psychoeducation to the CCNY community about issues pertaining to mental health, participation and creation of outreach events, facilitating workshops for students and faculty, and the possibility to provide peer counseling/mentorship to interested students.
• Application materials: Application Cover Sheet (please use form above for graduate programs); Personal Statement (500-1000 words, describing why you want to be a Peer Counseling Educator and how your experiences thus far make you a good candidate for the program; CV/resume; Two Letters of Recommendation from Professors (at least one from your major).
