Focus on Freelancing Workshop and Fellowship Program

Ready to dive deeper?

This hands-on, project-based workshop program will help support CCNY students to become successful in the opportunities presented by freelancing and by joining worker-owned co-ops. These opportunities allow students to earn money using skills, talents, and knowledge that they have learned in classes or other experiences, either as a lucrative "side hustle" or as a primary means of earning a living after graduation - even without needing formal work authorization.

Note: A paid fellowship is available for TheDream.Us scholars!

After completing this workshop, participants will be able to

  • Identify opportunities to apply their knowledge, skills and abilities as independent contractors

  • Share a portfolio documenting their work

  • Market themselves and network to obtain a first contract

  • Navigate legal requirements and constraints including being aware of tax obligations

  • Create basic pricing structures, contracts, budgets and billing/invoices
