Program Description - Stream A

M.S.ED Degree in Educational Theatre with Initial Certification in Theatre for Grades PreK-12
37 - 46* Credits
 


Candidates who have graduated with an undergraduate degree (B.A.) in Theatre comprised of 30-42 credits in: Acting Styles; Directing; Dramatic Literature/Theatre History; Design/Technical Theatre (or the equivalent) would be admitted to Stream A. This stream will provide them with more specific courses in educational theatre as well as education foundations and methods courses (both Generalized and Specialized Pedagogical Cores) required for initial teacher certification in Theatre.

Pre-Requisites: BA in Theatre or equivalent, liberal arts distribution requirements, including foreign language, LAST

*Up to 9 credits can be waived due to equivalent coursework on the graduate or undergraduate level. Some liberal arts distribution requirements can be satisfied while enrolled in the program.

EDCE 7600A: Artistic Lab 1 0 credits (Offered as a Lab with Drama in Education) (Offered in Fall Semester)
EDCE 3600C: Theatre for Youth and Young Audiences 3 credits + 15 Hours of Fieldwork (Offered in Fall Semester)
EDCE 3700C: Fundamentals of Teaching Theatre + 15 Hours of Fieldwork (Offered in Fall Semester)
EDCE 4500C: Fundamentals of Teaching Technical Theatre + 15 Hours of Fieldwork  (Offered in Spring Semester)              
EDCE 7800A: Exploring the History of Theatre (Offered in Spring Semester)  
EDCE 4400C: Arts Integration: Theatre and Related Arts in the Curriculum (Grades PK-12) + 15 Hours of Fieldwork

Foundations of Education
EDUC 7100A: The Urban School in a Diverse Society 3 Credits + 15 Hours of Fieldwork
Equivalent course in Education Theatre program offered in the Fall semester.

Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
EDCE 3100F: Curriculum Development in Educational Theatre 3 Credits + 15 Hours of Fieldwork (Offered in Fall Semester)
To be taken the semester prior to Student Teaching

EDCE 7400C: Teaching Literacy Through Drama

EDCE 7900A: Devising Theatre 3 credits (Offered during Summer Semester)
