ADMISSION INFORMATION

The City College of New York offers a Master of Arts in History. The M.A. Program in History has two tracks: a non-thesis track for those, such as teachers, looking to broaden their horizons and bolster their credentials, as well as a thesis-option for students interested in developing professional expertise in a field of interest or applying to doctoral or other post-graduate programs.

ADMISSIONS DEADLINES

Fall: April 1 (early action) and May 1 (regular)

Spring: December 1 (early action) and January 1 (regular)

NON-DEGREE ADMISSION

The M.A. Program in History also admits non-degree students, who may take up to 12 credits (typically four courses) in History at the graduate level. Non-degree students may apply to matriculate in the Program, and if admitted transfer up to 12 of the credits earned as a non-degree student towards the coursework required for the M.A. degree.

This option serves well prospective M.A. students, who would like to build their track record in history before applying for regular admission to our Program, as well as enthusiasts of history, who wish to take a few courses for their own personal or professional enrichment.

To apply for admission to the M.A. Program in History as a non-degree student, applicants should submit:

  • A statement of purpose (250—500 words)

  • A brief c.v. or resumé

  • An undergraduate transcript
