COMMON ISSUES

Below are some common issues and who you can contact to help resolve them. Please also consult the General Physics FAQ for more questions and answers.

Retaking a Physics Class

In the event you need to retake a physics course, please arrange permissions for this through your home department/major advisor - not the physics department (unless you are a physics major). Physics advisors cannot authorize repeat permissions.

Transfer Credit Evaluations

If you have physics courses from another school that need evaluating for equivalence, please do not send them to the physics department, but instead contact the Transfer Credit Evaluation office. Be prepared to submit your previous syllabi so that an evaluation can be made by the evaluators. If a consultation is needed with the physics department, that office will initiate it.

Overtallies

For most physics classes, the course cap will not be raised to accommodate overtallies. Please use the CUNYFirst waitlist function and if a spot opens up, you will be automatically enrolled. For upper-level classes, contact an advisor if you need help enrolling.

Pre-requisite Issues

Sometimes, CUNYFirst does not properly assess your pre-reqs and it may not let you register for a course you think you should able to. Contact contact an advisor and explain the situation and we should be able to fix it.

Introductory Physics Labs

The lab manual can be found here:

physicslabs.ccnysites.cuny.edu

Lab Policies, in brief:

  • All labs must be completed and lab reports turned in order receive a passing grade for Introductory Physics courses. Students who do not complete all labs will be given INC grades.
  • Completed labs cannot be carried over into a subsequent semester in the case a physics course must be repeated. All labs must be redone when retaking a class.
