Dean Edwin Lamboy as the facilitator opened the meeting at 10:00 am and took a motion to approve the Cabinet Minutes of January 23, 2023.  Minutes were approved by the Cabinet members.

Dean Lamboy welcomed the Public Safety team who were invited to conduct an emergency preparedness presentation to the Cabinet members.  The were Lt. George Crinnion, Lt. Anthony Laperuta, Lt. Edward Hickey and Lt. Archie Washington.

Dean Lamboy then moved forward with the agenda by continuing the discussion on First-year courses by asking the Cabinet members their thoughts on what a first-year experience should look like.  Associate Provost Valdes and Prof. Ruth Stark shared their thoughts and suggestion they submitted to President Boudreau prior to the meeting.   Others also shared their thoughts and some shared what they have done in their respective schools and what they knew about what other CUNY schools are doing.

Deliverable:  President Boudreau asked that every Dean who would like representation on the committee who would design the first-year course nominate one person from their department.

These nominations should be sent to Teresa Flemming before the March 6th Cabinet meeting.

Dean Lamboy then started the conversation on moving students from Undeclared to Declared majors.  VP Lloyd shared the status of Gateway.  She explained that Gateway analyzes the records of the students with forty-five (45) credits or more.  She went on to say that students work with Gateway advisors on a one-to-one basis to identify majors and help those who are eligible complete the “I declare” major form.

Deliverable:  VP Lloyd has been asked to:

  • Get a count of the number of undeclared majors in Gateway.

  • Submit a proposal on what needs to change and how we’re managing the movement of students from undeclared to declared majors.

  • Speak with the Gateway staff and come back with suggestions about what we can do and present them at the March 6, 2023 Cabinet meeting.

VP Lloyd then reported on Navigate.  She stated along with Provost Liss, they reviewed the video and are in communication with the developers.  In regards to the Success Markers, Dominic Stellini received information from the Deans and will be reaching out to them with more details.

President Boudreau spoke about the “Stony Brook Model.”  He encouraged everyone to look at Stony Brook’s website where they do engaged scholarships of all kinds.  President Boudreau mentioned that one of the things that came out of the Cabinet Retreat last year was that the college would be consolidating the coordination of all elements of engaged scholarships:  Undergraduate Research, Internships, CPDI, Career and Professional Development and Study Abroad.  He also stated that what we are thinking of is what we’re in the process of establishing.  He stated the location would be in a portion of the old bookstore and that this space would not be a place where the program would be managed, but a place where students with those programs will be at an informational level coordinated to allow us to start getting the information out better.  He then informed the Cabinet members that Associate Provost Cintron is the coordinator of these efforts.

President Boudreau announced that the Presidents and Provosts received a memo from EVC Hector Batista announcing next year’s budge cuts.  He informed the Cabinet that the budget cuts are an additional 4% on top of this year’s 2% cut.  He also announced that CUNY is reinstituting the VRB process, you will find here CUNY’s Revised VRB guidelines.  President Boudreau stated that he will be holding a Faculty and Staff Town Hall around these issues so that everyone knows both what we are facing and the seriousness of it.

Provost Liss informed everyone that the positions that are associated with the extra money the Governor put into the budget are lecturer positions and the eight faculty positions are exempt from the VRB process, but nothing else is and this has already taken effect.

Dean Lamboy announced that Dean Susan Perkins would be the Facilitator for the March 6th meeting.

Dean Juan Carlos Mercado, due to time constraints was not able to present his school at this meeting, therefore will present at the March 6th meeting.

Lastly, President Boudreau set the agenda for the March 6th Cabinet meeting.

Meeting adjourned at 12:06 pm.
