Racing against the dynamic forces of gentrification and time, the documentary, In the Face of What We Remember: Oral Histories of 409 and 555 Edgecombe Avenue, captures the extraordinary history of two Harlem buildings that were, perhaps, the social, political, and cultural epicenter of the Black World. These socioeconomically mixed dwellings, where Black people of various classes lived side by side, were home to men and women who included W.E.B. Du Bois, Elizabeth Catlett, Paul Robeson, Joe Louis, Count Basie, and Cassandra Wilson.
