Kelleyann Royce-Giron is an Adjunct Professor in the Special Education program. She holds a B.S. in behavioral sciences from Mercy College, an M.S.Ed. in special education from City College, and an M.S.Ed. in educational leadership from Baruch College.

Prof. Royce-Giron began working at CCNY in 2012. The first class she taught was SPED 5300K, Positive Approaches to Challenging Behaviors. She is a proponent of Restorative Justice Practices and Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports, and can incorporate that work into the course. “Much of the success we have with students revolves around building relationships.  That is key. We look at data and how to create a Behavioral Intervention Plan, but then what?,” she argues.

Throughout the years, Prof. Royce-Giron has added four other courses to her resume. She loves the variety of content, which, as she says, “all connects back to why we are involved in this work: for the children and youth we serve!” She adds, “To have the opportunity to impact up to 30 classrooms across the NYC Public Schools in any given semester is amazing.”

Prof. Royce-Giron has kept in touch with her graduate students from CCNY over the years, visiting their classrooms and being a thought partner on heavy cases, formal observation lessons, or looking at IEP goals and data. “To serve and teach the CCNY graduate students allows for me to indirectly serve the youth of NYC,” she points out.

Prof. Royce-Giron is on the founding team of a middle school in the Bronx, a former assistant principal, a former principal on the middle and high school levels, and now the Administrative Assistant Superintendent out of the Office of Safety and Youth Development for the NYC Public Schools. She oversees programs across the five boroughs. Furthermore, she was a nominee for the NYC Big Apple Award in 2011, and in 2018, she was awarded Principal of the Year by Educators with Passports, Inc. She is also a Principal Ambassador with the Center for Educational Innovation.
