Nelson Jordan is a 5th and 6th grade bilingual mathematics teacher in District 9 in the Bronx. He also teaches 4th grade English Language Arts and Heritage Language Arts.
According to Mr. Jordan, being in the Bilingual Childhood Education program was an amazing experience because he had professors who supported him in his academic journey. He shares that it is thanks to these professors that he was able to make connections with his peers and with programs that helped him develop and hone his ability, and put all the lessons he learned into practice.
Mr. Jordan was a New York City Men Teach fellow. He says, “This program helped me financially and academically, and prepared me to be in a classroom filled with students who are currently in the same place I once was. Thanks to the push that I received and the bonds I made in the program, I was prepared for classes and able to produce academic work that was up to standards.”
When he thinks about his experience in the CCNY School of Education, Mr. Jordan is appreciative of the long-term friends he made, on whom he relies for support. He is equally appreciative of his professors, who were invested in making sure that he became his best self in order to address the needs of his students. He shares that the School of Education prepared him to be the teacher he is today.
Mr. Jordan is currently pursuing an advanced certificate in students with disabilities (grades 7-12). He is also considering different paths that suit the vision he is creating for his future.
