Double Majors, Minors, and Other Frequently Asked Questions

Double majors

Some students majoring in International Studies decide to pursue a second major in another department or program such as Anthropology, Black Studies, Sociology, or Political Science. If you are considering pursuing a double major, be sure to speak with an advisor in International Studies as well as with an advisor in the second department or program so that you understand all the requirements. Be advised that a maximum of three classes can count toward both majors.

Minors

Some students majoring in International Studies pursue a minor as well. If you are considering pursuing a minor, be sure to speak with an advisor in International Studies as well as an advisor in the minor department or program so that you understand all the requirements. Be advised that students are responsible for consulting with the minor program or department to determine whether any classes can count toward both the major and the minor.

Advising

Dr. Muir serves as the Director of the International Studies Program as well as Undergraduate Advisor. Her office hours and contact information are listed on the Home page of the website.

Enrolling in classes

Students enroll in classes through CUNYfirst. If a particular class requires "departmental permission," contact Dr. Muir (smuir@ccny.cuny.edu). If the class requires "instructor permission," contact the instructor of record.

Residency requirements

Students are required to take 80% of the 120 credits required for graduation at City College or at least the last 32 of the 120 credits. Students are also required to take at least 60% of their major credits and 60% of their minor credits at City College. If you have questions about the residency requirements, contact the Registrar or the Colin Powell School Advisors.
