Date: July 13 - July 16, 2025

Location: Appalachian Mountain Club The Stephen & Betsy Corman Harriman Outdoor Center

CPR training being conducted

Wilderness First Aid (WFA) training intends to prepare you for a medical situation that may arise when you are in the backcountry, there is no ambulance, you are short on supplies, the wait for help is unknown, and moving the patient a short distance might take hours. WFA also teaches you how to avoid these situations through increased awareness of how to prepare ahead of time for backcountry trips where medical resources will not be readily available. The WFA course is a two-day, 16-hour course (8 hours/day) and covers a full range of situations, from scrapes and blisters to life-threatening emergencies.

Topics include: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. Participants will learn accident scene management and how to communicate effectively with an emergency rescue party. Our Wilderness First Aid training will also include a separate CPR course. By the completion of this training, all participants will receive a 2-year WFA Certification. This course is taught by an instructor from Desert Mountain Medicine and is highly experienced in the outdoors, certified in WFA, Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness Medicine, Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), and CPR.
