Tutoring

 

1. When is tutoring starting?

Visit the Division of Science/CCAPP Office for Student Success or our website to find out.

2. How do I find tutoring?

Visit our website to learn more about tutoring options.

3. I want to provide feedback about my tutoring experience?

The tutoring centers under the Division of Science/CCAPP sends an online survey to all tutoring participants each semester. However, participants can always contact the tutor coordinators with immediate feedbacks.

2. How do I apply for graduation?
  • Go to CUNYfirst.
  • Click on the Student Center link.
  • Choose Academics from the dropdown menu.
  • Select Apply for Graduation from dropdown menu.
  • Follow instructions on the screen and submit your application.
3. Can I march at commencement if I am not graduating?

You may only march if at least one of the two criteria below is satisfied:

  • You graduated in the previous September, January, or February.
  • You have successfully applied for June graduation.

Courses/Registration

1. I need to e-permit a course; how can I do this?

Go to CUNYfirst -> Student Center -> Academics -> ePermit from dropdown menu -> enter requested info in all fields. Be sure to include:

  • Campus where you wish to take the course
  • Equivalent course number
  • Reason why you must e-permit this course

If your ePermit request approval is not moving along, CUNYfirst will tell you where it is stuck. If it is at the departmental level, go see the chair.

Note: All students must fulfill residency requirements and have a GPA of 2.0 or above.

2. I am waitlisted for a course; how does this work?

You will not receive any notification when CUNYfirst finds a spot for you so you must check your status every day. If you waitlist yourself in different sections of the same course, every time a seat becomes available in one section, it will replace the one you had been assigned to previously. If you are next in line, but never get in when a seat becomes available, it means you have a negative service indicator, a pre-req, or scheduling problem.

3. I need an overtally

a. Contact the department for which you want to overtally.

4. I want to withdraw from a class; what do I have to do?

Pre-Majors: (in CF coded as Undeclared-BS)

Visit the Division of Science/CCAPP Office for Student Success (MR-108).

Majors:

Ask your faculty advisor to lift the hold.

5. I am having difficulty registering for a particular course; what should I do?

I have a hold.

CUNYFirst will let you know what type of hold you have and what office to contact.

Holds/Negative Service Indicators:

BIH – Go to Bursar A-103.

IMM – Go to Health and Wellness Office (MR-15).

ADV – Go to your faculty advisor or OSS/CCAPP office.

SEEK – Go to your SEEK advisor.

MEN – Go to Health and Wellness Office (MR-15)

Closed Course:

Go to CUNYfirst to add yourself to the waitlist. There is no guarantee you will get a seat.

Prerequisites Missing or Unrecognized:

If your prerequisites for a course are not on your transcript see your major advisor or visit the Division of Science/CCAPP Office for Student Success

Career Does Not Match:

If you are an undergraduate attempting to take a graduate course or vice versa, you will need to:

  • Get approval from your faculty advisor.
  • See Dr. Elizabeth Rudolph in MR-1320.

Permission Needed:

Contact the instructor or administrator in charge of the course.

Repeating a Course:

1st and 2nd repeat:

You will need to be enrolled by Dr. Millicent Roth, the Deputy Dean of Science. Please make an appointment via NAVIGATE.

3rd repeat:

6. I want to change my advisor; where do I go?

7. I am a non-degree student and I want to register for a course; what should I do?

Follow these steps:

Go to Admissions website https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/admissions/non-degreevisiting-studentsseniors for more information

Once you have a registration date, bring a copy of your transcript and a syllabus or course description for all prerequisite coursework to:

8. I have a course scheduling conflict; what should I do?

You will have to drop one of the two courses. If you do not know which one to drop, see your advisor.

9. No one else is in the classroom; was it changed?

Check the classroom number on CUNYfirst.

If you are in the right place, go to the office of the department that offers the course.

10. I want to see my final exam, but my instructor is not longer at CCNY?

If you took your final within the last year, check with the department office; they may have it.

If you took your exam more than a year ago, you are out of luck.

11. I want to dispute a grade that I received

12. I want to take a graduate course
