Nozomi Ando, Associate Professor, Dept. of Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Cornell University, will give a seminar on Oct. 27, 2021 titled, "From structure to dynamics: Bridging the gap between theory and experiment in structural biology."

ABSTRACT

Correlated motions are essential for protein allostery and function, yet few experimental probes exist. In this talk, I’ll discuss how information on correlated atomic motions exists in the continuous background signal that is discarded in conventional X-ray crystallography. This signal, known as diffuse scattering, has been very difficult to measure and interpret. I’ll describe our recent work in interpreting this signal and discuss how it can be used to bridge the gap between theory and experiment in structural biology.
