Professor John Fillos, Professor and former Chair of the Department of Civil Engineering at The City College of New York (CCNY), has retired after more than 50 years of unparalleled service, dedication, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to educating and inspiring future engineers. Professor Fillos received his B.E. in Civil Engineering from the City College of New York in 1960, and M.S. and Ph.D. From NYU in 1970. He returned back to the City College of New York in 1972 as a professor in environmental engineering. Since then, he has impacted lives and careers of large number of undergraduate, Master's and Ph.D. Students. Professor Fillos has also been leading authority in wastewater treatment in the Greater New York region and has made outstanding contribution to protecting lives and environment around the City and the State through his involvement with public agencies, such as the NYC Department of Environmental Protection and the NYC Department of Sanitation.
