Advisory Board
The CE Advisory Board (CEAB) consists of 11 external distinguished professionals from industry and academia who work across the multiple specializations within Civil Engineering. Several are CCNY CE program alumni. The CEAB advises the CE Department in academic, research and financial matters and provides a critical perspective that helps us to improve our department and its programs to better meet the needs of our stakeholders. The CEAB is currently chaired by Craig Ruyle. The Civil Engineering department is deeply grateful to its board members for their investment of time and energy to help the department to be the best it can be. They are (in alphabetical order):

Joe is currently a consultant serving on Boards for several business entities, namely, Architect/Engineering companies and non-profit organizations. He had served as a Senior Vice President and Northeast District Manager for AECOM, having total operational responsibility, including sales, for all business lines – transportation, water, environment, and facilities. Joe is a registered Professional Engineer and holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering (Civil) from the City College of New York, 1971.
Russell Ford, PhD, PE

Dr. Russell Ford is currently the Global Director for Drinking Water and Reuse Solutions for Jacobs. He has dedicated his 32-year career to protecting public health and safety by advancing the field of drinking water treatment. His drinking water industry knowledge is acquired from his utility, consulting and academic experience. His experience covers a wide range of treatment processes design, treatability testing and treatment plant startups. He has a Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering from Syracuse University and Master and PhD degrees in Environmental Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. He is an AWWA Fuller Awardee. Dr. Ford is a licensed professional engineer and a board-certified environmental engineer. He is also a member of The Water Research Foundation Board of Directors.
Michael Gerasopoulos, PE

Mike Gerasopoulos is a Principal with Thornton Tomasetti and a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of New York and New Jersey. Mike has over 27 years of experience in designing renovations and alterations to existing structures, investigating structural failures and performing condition assessments of buildings’ structural systems, due diligence and feasibility studies and peer reviews. His experience also includes structural engineering design for new commercial structures. Mike is responsible for supervising engineering staff, managing renovation and rehabilitation projects in mostly commercial buildings and coordinating with owners, architects and contractors. He holds a B.E. degree and an M.E. degree both in Civil Engineering from the City College of New York.

Jonathan Goodall, PhD, PE, F.ASCE

Jonathan Goodall’s research is in water resources engineering, hydrology, and hydro-informatics with much of his current research aimed at the goal of advancing flood modeling and mitigation in urban coastal communities. He serves as the Director of the Link Lab, an interdisciplinary research lab of over 450 faculty at the University of Virginia focusing on cyber-physical systems and Smart Cities. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE), a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a member of the Virginia Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for the journals Water Resources Research, Environmental Modelling & Software, and Computing in Civil Engineering. He earned a PhD and MSE in civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BS in civil engineering from University of Virginia. He was recognized by International Environmental Modelling & Software Society in 2012 with their Early Career Research Excellence Award, and by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2009 with their CAREER Award.

Nablul Haseeb is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of New York with extensive experience in structural design, retrofitting and emergency response projects. Nablul obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from the City College of New York and his Master of Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upon completion of graduate studies, Nablul worked for Thornton Tomasetti as a consultant to the Department of Defense and US Navy on several R&D projects involving the investigation of predictive models for structural collapse mechanisms. Nablul is currently serving as a Project Manager at STV overseeing the structural emergency response team in New York. Nablul is also serving as the co-chair of CUNY Green Infrastructure committee and is active with the SEAoNY and CMAA charters.

Priya holds Master of Science degrees in environmental engineering and physics, respectively from the University of New York and India’s Birla Institute of Technology and Science. Named 2023’s Enterprising Woman in Infrastructure by the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, Priya serves as an advisor to the City College of New York, New York University’s Construction Management graduate program, Louis F Jonas board and the IBBTA Foundation. She founded and chairs Prabhat, a nonprofit organization focused on educating underprivileged children.
Bruce Podwal, PE, F.ASCE

Bruce Podwal received a B.C.E. from CCNY (1959) and an M.S.C.E. from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (1963). A licensed Professional Engineer, he managed major engineering projects including the $10 billion Westway project in NYC, $200 million Guam Island-Wide Program, $2 billion Ankara-Gerede Motorway in Turkey, Hong Kong’s $400 million Central Kowloon Route, and Houston’s $3 billion Katy Freeway. Podwal served on the board of Parsons Brinckerhoff, before retiring from the 12,000-person engineering firm.
A Fellow of ASCE, Podwal was elected a Director to ASCE’s National Board. He served on ASCE’s Committee on Advancing the Profession and the editorial board of its “Leadership and Management in Engineering” journal. Podwal authored "The Engineering is Easy/Memoir of a Project Manager" and co-authored the Highway Engineering chapter in McGraw-Hill’s "Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers". He was elected a CCNY Chapter Honor Member of Chi Epsilon and received the CCNY Engineering School Alumni’s Career Achievement Award.

Tom is President/CEO of CDM Smith NY Inc. based in the firm’s Edison, New Jersey office. He has 39 years of diverse experience with the firm in project development, project management, and the planning, design, and construction of water infrastructure. He has played a key role in many of the firm’s largest infrastructure projects in New Jersey, New York and Connecticut. He presently serves as Director of CDM Smith’s North Group where he is responsible for all facets of the firm’s municipally focused business.
Tom holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Manhattan College located in Riverdale, New York. He is a board-certified environmental engineer and a licensed professional engineer in New York and New Jersey and holds leadership positions in many professional organizations.
