Professor Nir Krakauer Named 2026 ASES Fellow

The Department of Civil Engineering at The City College of New York congratulates Professor Nir Krakauer on being named a 2026 Fellow of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES).

The distinction of ASES Fellow represents the highest grade of membership in the Society and recognizes exceptional professional achievement and service toward advancing ASES’s mission and vision in solar and renewable energy.

Professor Krakauer is a Professor of Civil Engineering at CCNY whose research spans climate science, renewable energy, water resources, sustainable agriculture, and the application of machine learning to environmental and climate datasets. His work has included international projects focused on agricultural development and water management in Nepal, Pakistan, and other regions, as well as research supporting renewable energy grid integration, improved forecasting of extreme events, and sustainable resource management.

Professor Krakauer holds a doctorate in geochemistry from the California Institute of Technology and previously served as a NOAA Climate and Global Change Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. A longtime ASES Life Member, he served as ASES Technical Divisions Chair from 2019 to 2024 and continues to contribute to the Society through its Technical Review Committee and conference planning activities.

ASES announced its 2026 Fellows and award recipients as part of its annual recognition of leaders making significant contributions across the solar and renewable energy fields.

Professor Krakauer will be formally recognized during SOLAR 2026, the 55th annual ASES national conference, taking place October 19–21, 2026, at the Palmer Events Center in Austin, Texas. The Fellows Reception will be held on Tuesday, October 20.

The Civil Engineering Department congratulates Professor Krakauer on this distinguished recognition and his continued contributions to renewable energy, climate research, and sustainable engineering.
