A Reference Collection on Dominican Studies
Mission
The CUNY Dominican Studies Institute Library identifies, acquires, organizes, preserves, and provides access to primary and secondary sources of historical research value related to Dominican studies. The collection supports the teaching, learning, and research needs of The City College of New York, CUNY, and the national and international scholarly community.
Access to Library resources: CUNY database, digital collections, and Dominican Studies LibGuide.
History
The Dominican Library was created by Chief Librarian Sarah Aponte; with collections donated by Council of Dominican Educators members. It opened in April 1994 with a request for donations from the academic community, community organizations, and individuals whose writings, research, or public activism dealt with Dominicans in the United States. It is the largest specialized collection on Dominicans in the United States. The Library is widely consulted by local, national, and international researchers, writers, journalists, artists, students, teachers, community based organizations and government agencies.
