Diego Renart is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Faculty of Art and Design at Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey.  His dissertation, “Juventud y arte de Silvano Lora. Génesis y acción de un artista bajo la dictadura de Trujillo y parte de su primer exilio” brings together the fields of Art History and Dominican Studies, areas that he will continue to expand as a CUNY DSI Fellow.  Dr. Renart’s project examines the art work of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) produced while in the Dominican Republic and which now is part of a collection housed at Olana State Historic Site and James E. Taylor (1839-1901)’s drawings in the Dominican Republic, preserved today in the Library of Congress. During his tenure as a fellow he will also examine the media impact of  “Contemporary Dominican Art,” an exhibit held at Signs Gallery in New York City in 1981.
