The Francisco Torres-Petitón Collection

Biographical Note: Francisco José Torres-Petitón was born in the City of Salcedo, Dominican Republic. He is the son of Pablo Torres Rodríguez and Amparo Petitón, sister of Dominican composer, pianist, and bandleader Rafael Petitón Guzmán. As a historian, Prof. Torres-Petitón conducted numerous workshops, seminars, and symposiums on Dominican history. He was a historian who documented and wrote about the history of the Dominican Republic, but more specifically the province of La Vega. Prof. Torres-Petitón served on various boards including the committee that organizes the Vega-Moca Marathon, Our Lady of Altagracia Committee, among others. He served as president of the Vegano Institute of Culture and secretary of the Instituto Duartiano de la Vega. Prof. Torres-Petitón lived in the Dominican Republic all his life and donated his collection to the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute Archives during a visit on November 29, 2010. 
    
Scope and Content Note: The collection consists of business cards, certificates, music registration, obituary of certificate of  Francisco Torres, music copyright, compositions, registration and lyrics, invitations to tribute to Rafael Petitón Guzman, newspaper clippings, programs, photographs, correspondence, and musical composition notebooks that were related to the musical trajectory of his uncle, Rafael Petitón Guzmán as well as their families in the Dominican Republic.
